Note: This role is opened to both STUDENTS and NON-STUDENTS of the University
 
The Careers and Employability Service has secured funding to undertake an exciting research project focusing on how students hear about graduate opportunities and what influences their decisions when choosing which roles to apply for.  Findings from the research will help to inform future service provision.
 
The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, who will support the collection of data through the facilitation of focus groups, undertaking data analysis, as well as contributing to the final report which will be published on the Prospects Luminate website. 
 
The role will start in mid-January, initially for a period of 8 weeks.  Hours will be flexible but the successful candidate will need to be able to come onto campus on a regular basis to undertake the in-person focus groups, and to meet with their research supervisors. 
 
Preferred start date: 13th of January 2025
 
Expected end date: 7th of March 2025
 
Weekly hours: 8 hours per week
 
Location: On the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Main responsibilities:
 
  • Undertake analysis of existing quantitative and qualitative data to identify research themes.
  • Facilitate a minimum of 4 focus groups with 6 to 8 participants per session.
  • Transcribe focus groups and commence a thematic analysis of the data.
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling interviews.
  • Contribute to final research report.  

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
 
  • Confident communicator who is happy to lead focus group discussions by creating an open, welcoming environment that encourages participants to share their genuine thoughts and experiences.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research techniques and software such as NVivo, would be an advantage.
  • Ability to write clear, concise and professional research reports 
  • Excellent organisation skills 
  • Knowledge of quantitative data analysis techniques would be an advantage
