Role & Department Overview

Service Care Solutions have an ambition to develop a cyber resilience as a service offering. This service would be underpinned by offering customers a ‘Board Level’ report/cyber resilience audit that would provide organisations with a view on the types of cyber-attacks they are most at risk from, a view on the organisational and financial implications of such an attack, and a series of recommendations for organisations to respond to. This could initially take the form of; a cyber resilience gap analysis with the potential future development of a Benchmarking capability as Service Care Cyber becomes an established provider of such a service.

The development of the aforementioned service could, potentially, draw on a number of toolkits and frameworks developed by Professor Paul Hughes.

For this project Professor Paul Hughes will provide supervision to the intern to work under the direct supervision of Richard Freye, Chris Musgrove, and Professor Paul Hughes to develop up to 3 options for what Service Care Cyber future Cyber Resilience service offering could be.

Preferred start date: 2nd of December 2024

Expected end date: 28th of February 2025

Weekly hours: 20-40 hours per week

Location: On the Lancaster University campus; Remotely (in the UK) and at the premises of an external employer

Job Description

The intern will research the following key topic areas:

  • Target market analysis
Analysis of the market potential of key countries (identified by Service Care Solutions) and the key sectors/industries within these countries with respect to cyber-attacks, and so, the need for resilience. Highlighting key areas of initial potential and future growth areas. Focus on identifying appropriate target countries from the potential targets identified by SCG.
  • Attack profile
Identification and analysis of the attack profile within the geographical and sectoral areas identified in Section 1. This would provide a summary of the types of cyber-attacks that are most prevalent within the key cross-sectional areas. Running alongside this activity Richard Freye will look to identify and assess the most prevalent attacks and ascertain the level of risk aligned with this.
  • Competitor analysis
Focusing on the priority areas identified in Sections 1 and 2, a thorough review of the current market offerings will be conducted. This section will help to identify the nature of competitors, key gaps in competitor’s offerings, market opportunities, and potential areas for differentiation. This should also include understanding the deficiencies of SCC vis-à-vis competitors. This analysis needs to be able to inform the development of a cyber resilience report/audit for potential clients so insights during the analysis into this latter aspect will be critical.
  • Service offering suggestions and areas of potential
Drawing on the findings of Sections 1-3 a series of initial recommendations would be made providing; (i) a priority target market matrix, cutting across geographical, sectoral, and attack profiles (ii) current gaps in the market and the opportunities for differentiation that exist, and (iii) insights in to the potential structure and focus of the cyber report/audit offering to potential clients, providing a baseline from which further collaborations would define the specific details.
