Role & Department Overview

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is looking for students to join our student content creator team. Our interns will work with departments and liaise with students and academics to create authentic content about FASS programmes and departments, whilst representing University values.

We’re looking to work with the best creative digital content producers who keep themselves up to date with trends in digital storytelling.

The content our creators produce will be posted on social media channels and website. All the content that you make will be credited to you and can be linked to your own channels if you choose.

You must be currently studying at Lancaster University (UG or PG) for the 2024/2025 academic year and based at our Lancaster campus. Applications are open to students from all faculties - what’s important is that you a keen interest in digital content and can demonstrate your track record.

Preferred start date: 2nd December 2024
 
Expected end date: 29th September 2025
 
Weekly hours: 4 hours

Job Description

How you’ll work

You will work on average 4 hours per week, although it could be more when you’re working on a specific brief and less when you’re busy with course work.  You’ll work to specific briefs on a project-by-project basis as well as potentially creating quick social media posts for departments if required.

Projects will be agreed ahead of time and could be, for example: interviewing students about their course, doing an Instagram story to cover an event, creating a video diary/blog etc. Representing FASS, the stories you tell will be about courses and what it is like to study in the Faculty.

What we expect from you

  • Produce engaging, honest digital content to help prospective students decide if studying with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is right for them.
  • Around 4 hours a week working on projects either on your own, as part of a team, or covering recruitment events.
  • Create content to meet fixed deadlines and to an agreed brief.
  • Adhere to our brand guidelines and house style, whilst showing your own creativity and content style.
  • Come forward with suggestions and ideas for engaging content.
  • Take part in induction and training.
  • Participate in an MS Teams channel and actively liaise with other Interns in the team.

Person Specification

Does this sound like you?
You will have experience creating engaging digital content for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms.

You will have experience and technical skills in all stages of content creation from concept development and planning through to content capturing, editing and posting. Primarily experience creating and editing video content.

Understanding of social media and what makes for engaging content.

Understanding of the target audience – while for undergraduate courses this is mainly 15-18 year olds, for postgraduate courses this can range from 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate students to professionals who are already on the career ladder.
