Role & Department Overview

The Cyber Foundry works with SMEs in the Lancashire and Cumbria area to help them with their digital innovation and encouraging secure by design methodologies. As part of the assistance the Cyber Foundry offer SMEs, we recruit a student intern and place them within the company to carry out research and development work to help the company innovate and make them stand out against their peers in their sector and industry. One such company is Pre-Law Ltd who are looking to optimise and enhance current AI use.

Pre-Law was founded with a commitment to providing affordable, high-quality legal services regionally. Their aim is to challenge the traditional law firm model by offering fixed-fee services, making legal services more accessible by using AI to make the services more efficient and more affordable.

Pay Rate: £11.44 per hour + £1.38 holiday pay

Start Date: 11th September 2024

End Date: 11th December 2024

Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

  • Provide a short technical article for a wider (non-technical) business audience circa 500 words.

  • Understand and identify the aims and objectives of the business for effective communication and content development.

  • Provide creative and innovative ideas to help shape the direction of development for an innovative application.

  • Appropriate duties as directed by the CF technical manager.

  • Provide a handover report that will collate the work done throughout the internship; the approach, the decision making, and potential future work.

  • To develop an understanding of the work that the SME does, providing assistance and advice to help them excel in their sector.

  • Attending weekly team meetings with the CF technical manager and the SME team.

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP): Experience with NLP tools or models would be helpful, given our use of GPTs.

  • Data Management Skills: Since we input information into our GPT models in topic-specific chunks, familiarity with organising and handling large sets of data (e.g., databases or structured datasets) would be useful.

  • Understanding of APIs and Model Integration: Some experience with API integration could be valuable, as we might look to enhance our model interactions further.

  • AI enhancement to improve existing automation 

  • Optimising current processes, the company already uses AI

  • Cyber Security and AI integrity to be considered during project
