Are you a current student from our Grow Your Future or Lancaster Success Programme? 

We are looking for two passionate and enthusiastic students to join our Library Schools Engagement Ambassador team and make a positive impact on the academic journey of younger students. 

About the Role: 

As a Library Schools Engagement Ambassador, you will: 

  • Mentor and support year 12-13 students during Library Research Days and related activities.
  • Share your first-hand experiences of transitioning to higher education to inspire and guide students.
  • Contributing to the development of online resources, such as podcasts, blog posts, and videos.
  • Represent the library as a valuable resource for the local community.

While the project mainly focuses on sixth form or college students, there may be other opportunities to work with younger year groups, as the Library is developing new partnerships with local schools.

Location: On campus and outreach visits to local schools and colleges 

Total hours: 60 hours (average 2.5 hours per week during term-time)

DBS: This role is subject to a DBS check.

Job Description

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • To act as an Ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities, services and reputation
  • To share positive experiences and your knowledge of Lancaster University Library and Learning Development at the Library Research Daysand outreach visits;
  •  To provide Library tours and orientation to school and college visitors;
  •  To answer any questions school and college students may have professionally and positively and share personal experiences of life at Lancaster University;
  •  To share knowledge of academic study and research skills with schools and college students; 
  •  To work as part of a team and lead by example, delivering consistently good service;
  •  To work collaboratively with other ambassadors to develop and create resources for school and college students e.g. short presentations, informative videos, podcasts, blog posts;
  •  To attend compulsory training sessions where required e.g. orientation training;
  •  To attend workshops for personal development e.g. advanced research skills, careers training;
  •  Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Library & Learning Development team. 

Person Specification

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
 

Essential 

  • Registered as a Lancaster University undergraduate student in 2024/5;
  •  Registered as a student on the Grow Your Future or Lancaster Success Programme;
  •  An interest in helping school and college students from a Widening Participation background to develop research skills and advance to Higher Education.
