Role & Department Overview

The Cyber Foundry works with SMEs in the Lancashire and Cumbria area to help them with their digital innovation and encouraging secure by design practices. As part of the assistance the Cyber Foundry offer SMEs we recruit a student intern and place them within the company to carry out research and development work to help the company innovate and make them stand out against their peers in their sector and industry. One such company is Logical BI, who are looking to develop an automated platform for their clients and community. The company want a platform that provides a CRM, automated mailing lists, invoicing as well as a place to store videos, chats, and a platform to organise events and social gatherings.
 
Logical BI are a company for female founded businesses and women who like the great outdoors. They are looking for someone to help begin work on this platform. This Cyber Foundry Project would aim to begin the prototype development of such a system, focusing on a limited part of the overall platform.
 
Preferred start date: 9th of October 2024
 
Expected end date: 8th of January 2025
 
Weekly hours: 20 hours per week
 
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide a short technical article for a wider (non-technical) business audience circa 500 words.
  • Understand and identify the aims and objectives of the business for effective communication and content development.
  • Provide creative and innovative ideas to help shape the direction of development for an innovative application.
  • Appropriate duties as directed by the CF technical manager.
  • Provide a handover report that will collate the work done throughout the internship; the approach, the decision making, and potential future work.
  • To develop an understanding of the work that the SME does, providing assistance and advice to help them excel in their sector.
  • Attending weekly team meetings with the CF technical manager and the SME team.
  • Research and develop a platform prototype tackling a small number of the major features required by the SME 
  • To work with the SME to creatively provide input to develop the needed system
  • To work with existing and other potential technical team members
  • To develop a detailed documentation of the system

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
