Role & Department Overview

We are looking for a theatre technician with experience in sound and/or lighting to support our popular Theatre course. This role is based at the Lancaster Institute for Contemporary Art (LICA)
 
Preferred start date: 7th of October 2024
 
Expected end date: 7th of January 2025
 
Weekly hour: 36.5 per week
 
Location: Remotely (in the UK) and on the Lancaster University campus

Job Description

Main Responsibility:
 
  • You will play an important role in ensuring that LICA’s technical support is of the highest professional standard, and that the student and professional artist experience is safe, positive and supportive. This great opportunity will involve: 
    • Providing technical support for performances and events in Lancaster University's theatre spaces.
    • Providing theatre lighting and/or sound expertise 
    • Providing advice and expertise on how to tackle technical theatrical challenges
    • Working with other users of the space to ensure our creative spaces are prepared, reset and safe for everyone to use. 
    • Between theatre productions and lessons, support other LICA technicians in their areas of work in an equipment service to students and staff. Full training in this will be given.
  • Being part of a positive culture of awareness of health and safety issues 
  • Planning and organising your own workload in consultation with the Technical Manager 

Person Specification

Specialist practical knowledge and/or relevant industry qualification in one of more of the following areas:
 
  • Theatre Lighting
  • Theatre Sound
  • Theatre production
  • Rigging
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and email.
  • Experience of demonstrating practical technical techniques to a range of potential users, including supervising students.
  • Excellent IT knowledge and confidence.
  • Ability to plan and manage own time, and to negotiate with senior colleagues.
  • Ability and preparedness to do so some evening and/or weekend work, by prior agreement with line manager.
