Role & Department Overview

Located at the gateway to the Lake District National Park, five miles south of Kendal in Cumbria, Levens Hall is a beautiful privately-owned house and gardens. It is home to the world's oldest topiary gardens and centre of a thriving 9,500-acre agricultural estate which provides much of the produce for the site’s popular cafe, Levens Kitchen. There is also a bakery and gift shop on site. Levens Hall attracts around 32,000 visitors a year, with visitor numbers being quite seasonal.

A small number of colleagues deliver marketing activities as a team effort and there is little knowledge of how impactful different marketing efforts are. This internship will involve working alongside Levens Hall colleagues to understand the site, its heritage and current marketing activities with the aim of pulling together intelligence which can inform future marketing efforts. There should be a particular focus on attracting and securing visitors via coach parties as this provides a key business opportunity.

It is hoped the successful intern will work on site for part of the internship in order to get to know the team and the entirety of the business and site. Desk research could take place remotely. It’s important that findings and any recommendations be clearly communicated back to the management group at the end of the project, with a short report provided which could enable continued research to be conducted in future years.
