Who are we?
EnviroSystems (UK) Ltd is a 25-year Lancashire established business and the market leader in providing innovative farm animal bedding products and solutions. The company is going through an exciting period of growth and expanding further into its markets. The company has recently secured long-term research funding and we are looking to drive forward research and development directed by our Head of Research Dr David Townsend.

Role Purpose:
This newly created position will be responsible for conducting Envirosystems' research projects under the direction of the Head of Research. This work will be carried out to a high standard in order to develop a strong scientific foundation on which the company Vision and Scope is based. As well as R&D, there will also be a requirement to 'own' the existing Envirosystems product QC (Optisile,Slurrybugs, EnviroBed) and in-house t esting services, expanding on the data collected from our in-house testing to allow statistical analysis and predict future market needs (ie monitoring long term changes in UK-wide slurry and silage quality, soil nutrient capacity). The right candidate will also provide technical support to the Sales Team, including on technical questions the Sales Team may have around products and dealing directly with novel queries (working with the digital marketing team).
Where required, this will include expanding Envirosytems' Farm-Lead Innovation by visiting customers and gathering information on new product potential.

Job Description

  • Laboratory
    Assist in the design and running of experimental trials on a range of research projects. These include the laboratory testing and development of new products in the current Envirosystems range and involvement in the larger ongoing research projects where the market product has not yet been identified.
  • Quality Control
    Have ownership of the existing QC validation of Envirosystems products, including microbiological plating, colorimetric, selective plating and UV-vis spectroscopy assays. There is also a requirement to expand on Envirosystems current QC capability to improve our product offering.
  • Sample Analysis
    Have ownership of the laboratory sample analysis, improving our standard practices to match those achieved by competitive feed companies. Use the samples returned to Envirosystems to explore how additional data can be taken from these samples to increase the “big data” collected by Envirosystems on a yearly basis to prove our value and develop new products.
  • Technical Support to the Sales Team
    Assist t he sales team in a technical support role. This will involve being available as a resource to the Salesperson or Digital Marketing team when technical questions or problems with our products arise. This aspect will also involve engaging with our customers on a 1-on-1 basis where required for troubleshooting and following up on opportunities for development.

Person Specification

  • Qualified to MSc with PhD desirable, in biology, biochemistry, soil science, microbiology, veterinary sciences or similar.
  • Experienced in conducting academic-level research projects, and is able to show initiative and develop research ideas.
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a larger research team including external collaborators.
  • Ability to communicate scientific understanding to a wide range of audiences is essential, and an interest in the end-user and marketing is also preferential.
  • Willing to travel around t he country t o visit customers “on-site” to strengthen the company's scientific image, get first-hand experience of ongoing opportunities, and formulate novel solutions in conjunction with our farming collaborators.
