Role & Department Overview

The School of Computing and Communications is looking for 5 new ambassadors to support our upcoming open days and recruitment events.
 
This role does not have regular weekly hours, and you'll instead work when the department requires your support for Open Days, Visit Days and Tours.
 
The role is available to any Undergraduate SCC student who still has a year or more left of their degree, and who fits the person specification. The role initially lasts to the end of July, with potential to be extended for the following year. Postgraduate students who have previously studied their Undergraduate degree in SCC will also be considered, providing they have a year or more left of study.
 
You will receive training for this role.

End Date: 31/07/2021
Hours: Approximately 2 hours per week/variable

Job Description

  • Representing SCC at recruitment & outreach events (both in person and via Microsoft Teams), acting as a student ambassador for the department
  • Promote the ethos, opportunities and services of the department, and enhance its reputation at events, and to share your positive experiences of, and enthusiasm for, Higher Education and Lancaster University specifically at events and activities throughout the year
  • Providing a friendly and approachable welcome to prospective students / parents / teachers
  • Talking to prospective students / parents / teachers about life at SCC
  • Giving tours of the SCC labs in accordance with local lockdown rules, with the confidence to talk about the broad spectrum of SCC disciplines
  • Assisting with the set-up and organisation of recruitment & outreach events, supporting SCC’s recruitment team
  • The opportunity to deliver student life presentations on campus and in schools and take part in student Q&A sessions (subject to further training)
  • Providing administrative support for staff where required

Optional:

  • Talking to prospective students via the UniBuddy online chat system, and providing information about SCC and the University
  • Creating Blogs/ Vlogs
  • Taking over Social Media on events
  • Taking part in LiveChats to overseas students

Person Specification

 
  • Enthusiasm for life at SCC with excellent communication skills and the confidence to talk to prospective students/parents/teachers
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to talk to large tour groups
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and work to defined schedules
  • A friendly approach to dealing with prospective students / parents / teachers
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Utmost reliability and punctuality
  • Good knowledge of Lancaster University, including the campus systems, facilities and student life
