Role & Department Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the University's Recruitment, Admissions and International Office Student Ambassador Leader team. RAID are looking for around 6 ambassador leaders to join their existing team for 2020/2021. The ambassador leaders are based in the Welcome Centre and work around 8 hours a week, working alongside the Student Staff Manager in supporting the student ambassadors and being the first point of contact for visitors. 
Interview date: week commencing 4 May 2020
Must be available for both interview and also training as follows:
  • Operational session – Monday 15th June, 5-8pm
  • Training weekend - 10th and 11th October

Job Description

  • To supervise and act as a mentor to student ambassadors and to lead by example, delivering consistently good service and encouraging the ambassador team to do the same
  • To provide professional and outstanding campus tours to prospective students and their parents
  • To assess and coach ambassadors on their ability to deliver great quality campus tours
  • To provide excellent customer service whilst operating the front of house of the Welcome Centre, dealing with student and visitor queries, whether face to face, by telephone and email or web and social media
  • To monitor the Visit Us email account, responding to emails and setting up ad hoc tours for International and UK students where required
  • To provide administrative support for staff
  • To work as part of a team to support regular event activity including setting up and packing down of equipment
  • To assist with appropriate events to support the student recruitment process in a supervisory role, e.g. Applicant Visit Days, Undergraduate Open Days
  • To deliver student life presentations and take part in student Q and A sessions
  • To act as an Ambassador for the University, promoting its ethos, opportunities and services and enhancing its reputation at events and to share positive experiences of, and enthusiasm for, Higher Education and Lancaster University specifically at events and activities throughout the year
  • To support Outreach and Widening Participation events and tasks where required
  • To be involved in the development and delivery of ambassador training
  • To engage with prospective students via approved social media channels
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be required by the GRO team.

  • Registered as a current Lancaster University student (Essential)


  • Of supervising and/or mentoring others and providing advice and guidance (Essential)
  • Of liaising with students, staff members and external individual (Essential)
  • Of Lancaster University including the campus, systems, facilities and student life (Essential)
  • Of providing effective administrative support, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular use of Word, Excel, email and Internet  (Essential)
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment and providing excellent customer service (Desirable)
