This new diversity internship will be offered twice a year and is funded by Lancaster University. It will provide 1 x full-time, flexible and paid internships for one person who is:
  • Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME).
  • Socially or economically disadvantaged.
  • Have a disability

The Dukes is the only producing theatre in the Lancashire area and is the oldest cinema in Lancaster, operating since 1971. The majority of community involvement activity takes place at Moor Space. In 2019 our Creative Learning building was renamed Moor Space and given a new identity and purpose. Moor Space has become Lancaster’s newest venue for contemporary work and creative engagement. Moor Space will continue to be the home of The Dukes’ creative learning programme working with young people and those most at risk, but this work is now complemented by a contemporary theatre programme and partnerships.

This post will require the post holder to work unsocial hours, which will include evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Job Description

Main Duties

The post holder will spend their time with the Creative Learning department. The main duties are to:

  • Support the Creative Learning departments in the delivery of marketing activity across all areas of the marketing mix, including print, digital, events and PR.
  • Engage with community groups and local organisations to promote Dukes Theatre activities and programmes.


  1. Work with the Creative Learning team to regularly co-ordinate and update the ‘Get Involved’ pages on the Dukes website
  2. Support the design, editing and proofing of Learning marketing collateral, including flyers, adverts, online content and posters
  3. Provide onsite and offsite project support to practitioners, producers and the Creative Learning team in the delivery of participation activities. Ensure that participant monitoring and data is captured
  4. Support in the dissemination of the narrative of what Learning and Participation ‘do’ through the interpretation of data into infographics, creation of videos, collating feedback, the writing of blogs and social media content.
  5. Contribute to the writing, editing and proofing of season brochures, direct mail, leaflets, web pages and social media. Assist with the efficient and cost-effective distribution of marketing materials.
  6. Work with the Marketing team to co-ordinate and write press releases for local and regional press and media, following up as appropriate to secure maximum coverage. Attend press nights and other PR events including launch events.
  7. Support the Creative Learning team in managing the content of the Dukes Theatre social media channels and website ensuring it is up to date with a regular flow of information including news items, blogs, Twitter posts, video and interactive engagement with audiences.
  8. Promote and ensure compliance with the company’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies in every aspect of the work of the Department.
  9. Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Creative Learning Manager.
  10. Support administration of the Dukes Youth Theatre in consultation with the Communities and Participation Manager.
