The Grounds Team based within the Facilities Division are looking to appoint a seasonal grounds person to help and support the team in maintaining the campus landscape areas and sport pitches.
Working pattern: 36.5 - 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with some opportunity for weekend overtime work

Job Description

The grounds team provide landscape and sport pitch maintenance duties to ensure that the campus is looking its best at all times.

As a grounds maintenance operative you will undertake a number of operational duties, and tasks, which will typically include:

  • Grass mowing, hedge cutting, edging, general pruning, planting of trees, shrubs and other plants and hedge cutting.
  • Operating ride-on mowers, mini-tractors and other similar machinery
  • Undertaking general duties including litter picking, emptying bins sweeping, etc.
  • Undertaking daily checks to ensure equipment and machinery to be used is in a safe working condition

Person Specification


  • Full UK or equivalent driving licence covering categories B, B+E C, C+E, F
  • Previous grounds person/horticultural experience
  • To be skilled in the usage of a wide range of machinery and equipment associated with grounds maintenance
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, including:
  1. Ability to pass on verbal instructions and be understood
  2. Ability to communicate verbally with colleagues and customers
  3. To be responsive and helpful, having a ‘can-do’ approach and the ability to work as part of a team
