A Lancashire based company, which is the fastest manufacturer of printed paper cups in the world, is looking to recruit a Developer to assist them with developing and integrating their custom-built order tracking system. This placement is open to undergraduates, graduates and postgraduates of Lancaster University, and is a great opportunity to work on a significant project within a supportive SME.

Based in Clitheroe, an hour from Lancaster by car, this award-winning company are experts in the printed paper cup market supplying world-wide. They design and manufacture 100% recyclable products on-site, with a focus on customer service and delivery. The company has a strong environmental ethic, is passionate about what they do and has a supportive team-based atmosphere. There are several key projects which will feed in to their future growth, and this role will be part of that progression.

Working pattern: This is an eight-week full-time placement, but flexibility in the working pattern may be available. The start date for this project is also flexible to account for the study commitments of current students. There is the potential to work remotely on this project.

Job Description

The successful candidate would use their skills to:

  • Create, modify and restructure the back and front end of a custom built Order Tracking System.
  • Connect different systems together APIs.
  • Advise the business on better approaches to structuring code and getting systems to communicate to each other.
  • Implement improvements to search functions with Order Tracking System.
  • Implement improvements to input fields to auto-populate data where applicable.

Person Specification

  • An undergraduate / postgraduate / graduate of Lancaster University
  • Programming experience with Laravel, Wordpress and PHP – Must have experience in coding outside the classroom
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Ajax and Js - Must have experience in coding outside the classroom
  • Familiar with Github and Source tree as a means of source control - Desirable
  • Good understanding of command line / Bash commands – Very desirable
  • Excellent communication, verbal and written
  • Conscientious about commenting code and documenting approaches / methodologies.
