Job Description
From 23rd September 2019, public sector websites will be required to meet new accessibility guidelines.  The aim of the guidelines is to ensure that all documents can be read by 'assistive' or 'enabling' technologies (screen reader programs, screen magnification programs and voice input programs etc).
 

The Careers Service at Lancaster University is looking to recruit a recent graduate for a three-month period who will be responsible for the reviewing, development and testing of documents, and other Careers content, to ensure that we are meeting the requirements of the guidelines.

Pay Rate: £10.08 + £1.22 (holiday pay) = £11.30 per hour

Duration: 3 months - starting as soon as possible (ideally from early September)
 

Main Duties:

  • To work closely with the Careers Team to produce accessible information in a range of formats including Word, PowerPoint and PDF. 
  • To design a template that staff can use for compiling their own accessible documents.
  • To ensure that all accessible information is clear and easy to understand.
  • To work as part of a team.
  • To carry out any other duties within the range of the post. 

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable IT skills. 
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate training as and when required.
  • Ability and experience of creating document layouts
  • Ability to work in a flexible and cooperative way, managing a varied workload.
  • Experience of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 is desirable but not essential. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of testing and developing documents and other content to meet accessibility guidelines. (Desirable)
